I'm Henrietta and like so many others I don't like change, but in 2020 after a year long sabbatical I decided to take control and make a huge change; I'd been working at my last college for 16 years which shows how much I really loved the staff and students.
I didn't know what I was going to do; I knew I had energy and desire. I was really worried about leaving a good job that was paid and comfortable but in the end after much deliberation and discussion it just felt like the right thing to do.
Some people would view my decision as a waste of time, however, I see it as a time to experiment and grow. So far, I've met some great customers both at Roman Road and LadyLane market and have had the good fortune to work with other energetic sole traders, creators, mentors and coaches.
Taking control doesn't mean I'll get things right or be a great success, but I do like having peace of mind; being in control of my time; taking full responsibility and making decisions that benefit and work for me.
2020 has been a sad and difficult time for everyone and although it may seem the wrong time to experiment I want to be more positive. I see this and next year as time to be thankful; to experiment and review. So The Black Gift Shop is just going to be one of my projects. I've always been a good sounding board when people have a problem or issue and both colleagues and friends have always appreciated our discussions so providing this as a business service is something I'm exploring.
That's basically it for now; my aim it take things a step at a time and just to enjoy what the journey has to offer.
